Tikal National Park, Guatemala


This national park 575 square kilometres of jungle and thousands of ruined structures. Archeologists estimate that the Maya settled in the area now known as Tikal in about 900 BC. Over time, Tikal grew into an important ceremonial, cultural, and commercial hub.To this day, Tikal is to Guatemala what the Great Pyramids are to Egypt. They are a national symbol, and a source of great historical pride for the region. Tikal is easily accessible via Guatemala, Mexico or Belize.
