The Bees by Laline PaullBooks
Playwright Laline Paull’s debut novel, The Bees, is one of the most original works of fiction to come along in years. The Bees is the story of Flora 717, born a sanitation worker bee, the lowest of the low within her hive. Flora has special talents however, setting her apart from other sanitation workers and giving her the chance to experience all aspects of life within the hive. Paull’s wildly imaginative novel paints a picture of a world that is completely alien, yet strangely familiar in places. The first few pages are a genuinely unsettling read before you are sucked in completely. A fantastic and strange book that charts new territory for dystopian fiction.
